15 bachelorette games that aren't cringe

Fun for the bride, the besties and the future mother-in-law. Yes, really.

Let's be honest: some bachelorette games are a little much. Nobody wants to spend the evening pretending to enjoy something awkward. The best games do three things. They get people who don't know each other laughing in the first ten minutes, they put the bride in the spotlight in a way she'll love, and they work for everyone in the room, from the college roommate to the future sister-in-law.

We've grouped our favourites by when to play them, so you can build the whole night around them.

Ice-breakers to start the night

1. Who Knows the Bride Best?

The classic for a reason. Before the party, ask the bride 20 to 40 questions about her life, her partner and her guilty pleasures. Guests answer on their own, then she reveals the truth. The person with the most right answers wins, and the stories that come out are the best part. Need questions? Use our 60 ready-made Who Knows the Bride questions.

2. Two Truths & a Wedding Lie

Each guest shares two true stories about the bride and one made-up one. The bride has to guess the lie. It's a sweet way for her to hear how each friend sees her, and it needs no props at all.

3. Bridal Emoji Pictionary

Send everyone a list of wedding words to "draw" with emoji in the group chat: first dance, something blue, honeymoon. The first correct guess wins a point. It's perfect while everyone is still arriving.

4. Find the Guest

Hand out cards with prompts like "has been to Italy" or "has known the bride for 10+ years". Guests mingle to find someone who matches each square. It's ideal when the group comes from different parts of her life.

✦ Host tipPlay your ice-breaker in the first 30 minutes, before dinner. Once people have laughed together, the rest of the night runs itself.

5. Bachelorette Bingo

Each guest gets a card with night-out moments: a stranger buys the bride a drink, someone requests a 2000s song, a toast to the groom. Mark them off as they happen. First to five in a row wins. It works brilliantly in loud places where talking is hard.

6. The Dare Deck

A stack of dares, from sweet (take a selfie with the bartender) to spicy (get a stranger to share marriage advice). Colour-coding the levels lets the bride choose how wild the night goes, which is key if the mother-in-law is coming.

7. Photo Scavenger Hunt

Split into teams with a list of photos to capture around town: a couple who've been married 20+ years, something borrowed, a sign with the bride's initials. Set a time limit and review the photos over the next drink.

8. Pin the Ring

Every guest gets a few plastic rings. Say the forbidden word ("wedding", "groom" or the bride's name) and anyone who catches you takes one of your rings. Whoever has the most by midnight wins.

9. Advice from Strangers

Carry a little notebook and collect marriage advice from people you meet throughout the night. It's funny on the night and becomes a sweet keepsake for the bride afterwards.

The best games make the bride feel celebrated, not embarrassed.

10. Never Have I Ever: Bride Edition

A party favourite, made wedding-themed. Keep two versions ready, one clean and one spicy, and let the group decide which deck to use. Everyone starts with ten fingers up, and the stories behind every lowered finger are the real game.

11. The Newlywed Game

Record the groom answering questions about the bride before the party. She guesses his answers, then you play the video. For every miss she takes a sip, or a bite of cake if you're keeping it classy.

12. Lingerie Guessing Game

Guests bring a gift and the bride guesses who gave what. Just make sure the group is comfortable with it first. Read the room!

13. Love Song Lyrics

Read out a line describing a famous love song in plain words ("I'll be there when you need me, a lot") and teams race to name the song. It's easy to make yourself and a hit with every age.

14. Wedding Dress Challenge

Teams get a few rolls of toilet paper and ten minutes to design a wedding dress on one of their members. The bride judges. It's silly in the best way, and great for photos.

15. Letters to the Bride

Not a game exactly, but it's the moment everyone remembers. Ask each guest to write a short note to read now, or to open on her first anniversary. Expect happy tears.

How to host the games like a pro

  • Pick 3 to 4 games, not 15. One ice-breaker, one night-out game and one or two for later is the sweet spot.
  • Prepare before the day. Print, cut and personalise everything at least a week before.
  • Have prizes ready. Small things work best: mini champagne, a scrunchie, a nice lip balm.
  • Check with the bride. Ask the maid of honor what's off-limits so nothing makes her uncomfortable.
  • Go digital if travelling. Phone versions of the games save packing and work anywhere.
